Dentures on locators on dental implantsIn order to increase the comfort of denture use, there should be at least 4 implants fixed in the jaw. The minimum number for the mandible (lower jaw) is two implants to support the denture. Dentures on implants may be fixed using ball-shaped attachments or clips fitted to a metal bar (the Locator attachment). Currently, the Locator attachments are considered more durable and recommended for fitting the denture to implants.

Persons using dentures with the Locator attachment should come for a check-up visit every 6 months to have the scale around implants removed and silicon O-ring attachments changed.

Denture users should maintain the same level of oral hygiene as is required for other people who have their own teeth and, e.g., crowns or bridges fixed on them. If residue or scale which gathers on dentures is not removed, yeast infections may develop in the mouth.

Acrylic dentureRemovable denture  is a prosthetic device that may be removed from the mouth by the patient for hygienic purposes and fitted in again. It may replace several or all missing teeth. If the patient has at least one natural tooth, partial dentures are prepared. Partial acrylic dentures are fitted in using prosthetic clasps hooks that are attached to the patients existing tooth or teeth.

Frame dentures
Frame dentures

Full frame dentureFrame dentures are exclusively partial dentures which are attached to the patient?s existing teeth using clasps. There are no complete frame dentures. If the patients has no natural teeth, complete dentures are prepared. Sometimes, for patients with edentulism, complete upper dentures may remain in place because, thanks to the lower pressure in the mouth cavity, the plate of the denture is sucked to the palate. If all teeth are missing and the upper denture cannot remain in one place, i.e. it is loose, and there is no sucking force between it and the palate, the solution might be to provide a denture liner. If the liner does not produce the desired results, dental implants may be introduced.

Indications for dentures

  • reconstructing missing teeth
  • treatment of edentulism (toothlessness)
