David and Jo recently completed their treatment at IMPLANTIS . They were kind enough to provide these video reviews of the dental treatment they received and their experiences at the clinic.

David had tooth removed and replaced with a dental implant.

Jo’s treatment included prosthetic works such as porcelain – zirconium crowns and bridges.

“I have discovered, late in life (I’m a 50 -something!) that I suffer from Bruxism ( grinding teeth of clenching teeth in my sleep). Over a number of years I have broken a number of molars, some irretrievably. i.e. nothing left to put a crown on. So I investigated implants in the UK ( I already have 3 implants so fully familiar with the procedure) but the cost in the UK is prohibitive. We researched Hungary, Poland and Spain as centres of excellent dentistry and specialists who do this work, but much cheaper than UK. We settled on Poland and I compared two Implant specialists in Krakow. Actually, it was diffiuclt to make the choice, but I went to Implantis since they answered all my questions very thoroughly ( you should research a check list of questions to ask before you commit) and they also used the Straumann Implant system, which I discussed with my dentist in the UK, and we felt this was a superior system and more universally known – so if I have problems in future, and I am not able to return to Poland, another dentist would probably recognise this. I discussed the options and the treatment with my dentist in the UK who was very supportive. Other important factors for choosing Implantis include English speaking dentists, qualifications and experience, excellent customer service/front desk, and of course, cost. I believe that some of the dentists at Implantis work in the University teaching dentistry which gave me more confidence that you are dealing with professionals not a cowboy outfit. It is very important to ascertain the professionalism and experience of the dentists at the outset since one needs to have confidence in the dentist before taking the plunge. It is after all a big step. Also I was keen to understand, that in the worst case scenario, and if some of the treatment did not go as planned, what back up would be available in an emergency situation. Implantis answered all these questions to my satisfaction before I arrived.

Absolutely fantastic. I have been hugely impressed with all Implantis staff and dentists from the outset. The surgery is clean and hygienic. Observation of hygienic practice is outstanding at Implantis, along with excellent use of modern technology. On arrival, and following CT scans, I discussed the options in terms of treatment plans with the Senior Dentist Tomasz Bobek. We discussed the minimum work required to replace only very badly damaged teeth but we also discussed more extensive work to improve my entire dental situation. I was given time to consider these options. Everything was explained using images from the CT scan and a clear treatment plan was produced, with costs. In the end I chose pretty much a complete ‘overhaul’, which included 5 extractions and implants, with associated crowns, 2 further crowns, 4 inlays/onlays, a number of fillings, root canal treatment on one tooth and two posts inserted ( for one of the above crowns). The treatment also included a session with the very thorough dental hygienist and I was provided with a mouthguard at the end of treatment to ensure i don’t damage my teeth again from grinding/clenching. They also took out some old amalgam fillings and replaced with white composite.

Overall the treatment has taken 5 trips; The first trip was for three days ( dental hyigienist, extractions, root canal treament), the next trip (one month later) for two days ( insertion of implants, fillings), 5 months later (once the implants had set in the bone) 2 more trips of 1 day (healing rings) ( prepration of teeth for crowns etc) and finally treatment over 3 days (impressions, final placement of all the crowns, mouthguard), either side of a weekend (My wiofe came with me and we enjoyed the sites and restaurants of Krakow and surrounding area – a really great place to visit!).

The treatment itself has felt very long, with many long sessions in the chair. Sometimes I wasn’t expecting such long sessions, which can be tiring, spending many hours with your mouth wide open. (It was also more difficult because alot of the work I had done was at the back of the mouth). But the team that worked on me ( different dentists for different tasks) were always professional and went to great lengths to try to minimise the pain. There can be no denying that some of the treatment I underwent was painful! but this is part and parcel of the treatment, you have to accept this. But they did their best to make me comfortable and usually, once out of the chair, pain could be managed through painkillers and was short lived.

In conclusion, and with hindsight, I think it would have been better to have attempted fewer implants in one go. 5 extractions and replacement implants, along side the other work which I had done, is quite traumatic and also you get left with a lot of gaps for say 5 months while you wait for the next stage. So I think if I were to do it again, I might be more patient and do the treatment over 18 months/2 years.

BUT – the end result is a full set of teeth which look highly realistic and feel very strong – I can chew and smile again with confidence! They have adjusted the bite, everything is working very well. I am extremely pleased.

Overall, I would give the dentists and staff at Implantis full marks for their professionalism, hygiene, pleasant ‘chairside’ manner, helpfulness, ability to explain in English, well equipped and good use of technology etc. I can strongly recommend Implantis to anyone considering implants or extensive dental repair work.

In terms of cost, the above treatment cost less than ?9000. Plus hotels and travel, so say about ?10,000. If you can get world class treatment of this calibre for less, I would be surprised.
